Other nations of the world must look at the U.S. and just shake their heads in bewilderment. After all, how many other countries can you name where the gun laws allow the criminals to possess weapons that outgun the police?
In the last month alone, there have been 53 deaths in the U.S., most of which were related to someone using an assault weapon. Policemen were among those deaths, including three in Pittsburgh.
Assault weapons are banned in Mexico, so the drug cartels purchase them in the U.S. The gang violence is spreading into many U.S. cities, using these weapons.
I’m not a gun control advocate, but common sense has to come into play here somewhere. The government does not want to take away our guns, nor are they conspiring to overtake us.
The ban Bill Clinton put on assault weapons lowered crime and protected police. However, thanks to George Bush the ban was removed. Now when a policeman answers a call, only God knows what he’ll come up against.
Reinstating the ban on assault weapons would make our country and our policemen safer.
As far as right-wing commentators go, it’s time to stop some of the trash talk. On a recent show the guest and host actually stated that the Obama administration was having FEMA build concentration camps for Republicans. This statement was later recanted.
Some half-deranged person with an AK-47 listens to this and doesn’t wait to hear about the recanted part. He instead loads his weapon and decides to go out in a blaze of glory.
I think those commentators are as sick as the gunmen. Until some kind of law is put into effect, I pray for the safety of everyone, especially policemen.
