Mercer zoo fire requires full investigation

Marian Bibby

Brookfield

I was shocked to read of the tragedy resulting in the death of so many animals in the Sykes home fire.

What kind of house was this? Was there ever a question about housing this many animals as well as people? This was a sanitary and health hazard.

Does it take a tragedy to bring situations to light? A complete investigation is warranted.

As for Renee Dorogy, the humane officer, commending the whole neighborhood for coming together to help, that’s fine. But surely this neighborhood was aware of this situation beforehand and should have reported it to the proper authorities. Then this tragedy wouldn’t have happened.

People are to report abuse when they see it. That’s what it is all about. The food and vet bills for this many animals had to be astronomical.

I am a dedicated animal lover and I know how much time and finances it takes to care or one or two animals. I used to be a member of the Animal Aid Society and the Mercer County Humane Society many years ago until health issues proved to much for my involvement any more.

However, I still do what I can by contributing to many organizations and still work to stop animal abuse.

What happened to the blind pony that was killed last year in Shenango Township? What were the results? For these tragedies to happen in our own backyard causes me to wonder who is doing their job.
