Perhaps in responding to The Herald headline, “Residents Oppose Housing Project,” it would be prudent to look in the mirror. Shame on all of us who think we are so much better than those “low income” people.

Our own families could be right in that same situation through no fault of their own in a blink of an eye. Sickness or injury with no insurance, car breakdown with no financial cushion, limited-skill education beyond high school, minimal support systems, lack of good mentoring at critical times in youth — any of these can and do change our financial and personal status quickly.

Those who choose criticism and judgment should consider what they can personally contribute to help our community. They should open their eyes, look in the mirror, volunteer, make a difference and become part of the solution.
