Boy tormented by bullies returns to school

WEST MIDDLESEX — A boy school officials say for more than a year had been the victim of bullies returned Wednesday to West Middlesex schools, board President Thomas Hubert said.

The boy’s parents pulled their son from the district March 17 after complaining several times about the bullying to school officials. The bullying included taunting, shoving, slapping and pushing, transportation supervisor Charlie Long said.

Since learning last week of the bad bus behavior, school directors agreed to place a camera on the bus and will equip all busses this summer before school resumes.

Man gets probation for rifle in truck at school

LAKEVIEW — A Worth Township student who brought a loaded rifle in his truck to Lakeview High School was sentenced Tuesday to a year probation and ordered to pay costs.

Samuel David Wareham, now 19, of 572 Bradley Road, pleaded guilty in January to possession of a weapon on school property on May 11, 2007. He was sentenced by Mercer County Common Pleas Judge John C. Reed.

“He did not take the gun to school to threaten anyone,” said Wareham’s defense attorney, Randall T. Hetrick.

Hetrick said Wareham used his rifle to hunt groundhogs but trouble started when he told a bully he had the rifle in his truck.

Wareham cooperated with the school administration, Hetrick said. He added Wareham is not able to go to boot camp for the National Guard, as he’d planned, because of the criminal charges.
