Superintendent’s contract expiring

BROOKFIELD

Mark down Brookfield as another local school district in search of a superintendent.

School directors said Wednesday night they won’t renew the contract of Superintendent Steve Stohla when it ends in June.

The decision between the board and Stohla was an amicable one, board President Timothy Filipovich said.

The person named to the position will become the district’s third superintendent in four years.

The deadline for those looking to apply is May 11 when Filipovich said he and a committe that also includes board member Kelly Bianco, treasurer David Drawl, elementary school Principal Debbie Gratz and the Trumbull County superintendent will narrow the candidates to eight or 10.

Then, a soon-to-be-selected committee comprising a parent, a student, a resident, faculty and staff will narrow the field to three who will interview with school directors for the job.

“That’s the process we’re looking to follow,” Filipovich said.

Stohla, 61, of Alliance, Ohio, was hired in 2007 on a one-year contract worth $75,000 to succeed Michael Notar.

Stohla had been superintendent at Alliance City School District before retiring earlier that summer. His contract at Brookfield was renewed for the current school year.

Brookfield joins Shenango Valley school districts Farrell, Hermitage and West Middlesex in looking for a new superintendent.

Stohla was not available for comment in time for today’s story.
