A man with a knife and a man with a hammer fought in the street Saturday afternoon near the center of town, prompting a neighbor to draw a gun, Greenville-West Salem Township police said.
Robert Hughes, 26, of 8 Harrison St., and Josh Meehan, 21, of 20 Jefferson St., argued when Hughes walked by Meehan’s house.
Then at about 1:30 p.m. Hughes walked by again, this time armed with a knife. Police said Meehan came off his porch with a hammer and the two started arguing and waving weapons at each other.
Then Kurt May, the owner of 20 Jefferson St., came out with a gun as Hughes and Meehan continued fighting with a girl who police didn’t identify between them.
The men were arrested on charges of aggravated assault, simple assault, reckless endangering and disorderly conduct, police said.
Meehan was also charged with ethnic intimidation for directing racial slurs at Hughes, who is black, police said.
Neither man was injured and police said they are still investigating and may file more charges.
