Area Memorial Day observances
Also Boy Scout Troop 86 and Cub Scout Pack 89 of Sandy Lake will serve as Honor Guard. Bagpiper Mark Bodamer, Chris Gilliland singing the National Anthem and music provided by Lakeview High School Marching Band. Please bring a lawn chair. In case of inclement weather, observance will be moved to the Lakeview United Methodist Church across from the cemetery.
The event is sponsored by the Lakeview Area Ministerium and the Scott a. Black Funeral Home.
Mercer
Honor veterans and fallen heroes at Mercer Memorial Day 500, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday on the square around Mercer County Courthouse. Events include:
• Race Through the Flags, 9 to 9:30 a.m. — a 5k foot race through the 500 flags posted along Pitt Street. Registration begins at 8:15 a.m. by the Civil War Monument and the race begins at the post office. Info: www.mercermemorial day500.homestead.com.
• Fun and games for kids on North Diamond Street, 9 to 11 a.m.
• Patriotic program, 9:30 to 10:15 a.m. — A USO-type show with the American Belles from New York City will highlight Vietnam at the courthouse bandstand.
• Veterans reception, 9:30 to 10:30 a.m., on the south side of the courthouse. Veterans are invited to sit, eat, visit, relax and enjoy the music.
• Military induction ceremony, 10:30 to 10:45 a.m., courthouse bandstand. New recruits take a public oath to serve their country.
• Parade, 11 a.m. to noon, featuring 75 marching units and six musical groups, along Pitt Street from the post office to Citizens Cemetery.
• Memorial Salute, noon to 1 p.m., Citizens Cemetery.
• Blackhawk helicopter on display, 1 to 2 p.m. Citizens Cemetery.
In case of rain events will be held at Mercer High School.

Sharon American Legion Post 299, will host a ceremony at 11 a.m. Monday in Oakwood Cemetery, Hermitage.
