A Jamestown-area man died and another was seriously injured in a two-vehicle crash late Thursday near Linesville.
James A. Pashakarnis of South Shenango Township was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash, which occurred around 10:10 p.m. at the intersection of state Route 285 and Church Road in North Shenango Township, Crawford County, state police at Meadville said in a news release.
Pashakarnis, whose age and address were not provided by police, was northbound on Church Road when he drove through a stop sign into the path of an eastbound tractor-trailer driven by David L. Thompson of Tonawanda, N.Y, police said.
Both vehicles came to rest in a field, police said.
Pashakarnis’ passenger, Eugene Dozzi of Jamestown, was taken to Meadville Medical Center and transferred to Hamot Medical Center in Erie for treatment of major injuries, police said. A message left for a spokeswoman at Hamot Friday afternoon seeking information about Dozzi’s condition was not returned.
Police said Thompson was taken to Meadville Medical Center for treatment of moderate injuries. A spokeswoman in the emergency room said they would not release information about any patient’s condition.
Neither Pashakarnis or Dozzi were wearing seatbelts, police said, and it was unknown if Thompson was wearing one.
Police were assisted at the scene by North Shenango Township Volunteer Fire Department.
