An Amish man critically injured five weeks ago when his horse-drawn buggy was struck in a hit-and-run crash has been released from a Youngstown hospital, a spokeswoman said Thursday.
Erven Byler, 22, of 5824 Pine Road, East Fallowfield Township, Crawford County, was released from St. Elizabeth Health Center Monday, where he’d been a patient since he was thrown from his buggy during the May 5 crash on state Route 358.
Timothy Fredrick Alter, 29, of 90 Shenango Park Road, Lot 7, Pymatuning Township, has been charged with driving the van that hit Byler’s buggy.
Five days after that crash an alleged drunk driver crashed into another buggy on Route 358, police said.
Jennifer Crenshaw, 38, of Geneva, Ohio, is charged with driving the pickup truck that hit a buggy driven by Benjamin Kempf, 29, of 299 Carey Road, Perry Township, about 7 p.m. May 10.
Kempf was in stable condition Thursday at St. Elizabeth’s, the spokeswoman said. His four children were also injured in the crash.
Ms. Crenshaw faces a preliminary hearing Monday before District Judge Lorinda Hinch, Mercer, on charges of drunken driving, aggravated assault by vehicle, accidents involving death or injury, drunken driving with the highest rate of blood alcohol content, failure to stop and render aid, reckless driving, careless driving, speeding, disregarding traffic lanes and failing to keep right.
