A Grove City area man pleaded guilty to two charges related to a high-speed police chase a year ago.
Steven P. Filer, 53, of 43 George Junior Road, is set to be sentenced Tuesday by Mercer County Common Pleas Court Judge Thomas R. Dobson on charges of fleeing police and reckless endangerment.
Mercer County District Attorney’s Office agreed not to pursue a charge of resisting arrest and 20 traffic violations.
State police gave this account:
Filer was speeding at 8:38 p.m. April 16 on Interstate 80 in Wolf Creek Township and refused to stop. Filer eventually left I-80 and sped through Wolf Creek and Pine townships, Grove City and Liberty, Springfield and Findley townships at up to 100 mph, with three cruisers in pursuit.
On state Route 258, Filer was traveling between 80 and 90 mph when his pickup fishtailed through a curve, slid off the road and struck a fence post and a tree at 410 Woodland Road, Findley Township.
Filer was thrown out a side window and landed beside the truck.
He was taken to Grove City Medical Center and flown to Pittsburgh, where he spent a little more than a week in Allegheny General Hospital.
A state police trooper suffered a hand injury and his cruiser was damaged while trying to stop the pickup. The trooper, who was not named, was treated at the hospital of Sharon Regional Health System.
