The owner of a pit bull that Sharon police said attacked a 7-year-old boy last week has been cited by the local and state dog wardens.

Quentin Walker, 25, of 485 Lincoln St., Sharon, faces a total of $1,111 in fines and court costs on three citations, according to paperwork filed at District Judge James E. McMahon’s Sharon office.

Police said Walker’s pit bull, Dino, bit the Hermitage boy on the leg and arm shortly before 1:20 p.m. June 10 in the 400 block of Lincoln.

The boy was treated at the hospital of Sharon Regional Health System for bites to his lower left leg and thigh and to his wrist and upper arm, police said, and he needed multiple stitches.

Walker was cited by Mercer County animal control for not confining a vicious dog and for not having the dog vaccinated against rabies.

The state dog warden, an employee of the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture, filed a citation against Walker because the dog was not licensed.

Walker has 10 days to respond to the citations after they are received.

The white and brown pit bull is being quarantined for 10 days at Shenango Valley Animal Shelter, Hermitage, said Kathy Whiteman, shelter director and county dog warden.

Ms. Whiteman said Dino will remain at the shelter until the owner decides what to do with the dog. If he signs the dog over to the shelter then the dog could be euthanized, Ms. Whiteman said.

If Walker does not respond to the shelter’s request for a decision by the end of the quarantine, Ms. Whiteman said the dog will be put down.

Police said they’ve been called to Walker’s home before for loose dogs.
