Motorcycle crash claims life of man, 28

A 28-year-old Clarks Mills man was killed early Saturday morning in a motorcycle crash on the border of Mercer and Crawford Counties, police said.
Matthew Wade Mitchell, of 838 Carpenters Corners Road, Perry Township, hit a stop sign at about 2:15 a.m. at County Line Road and U.S. Route 19 in Greenwood Township, Crawford County, state police said.
Mitchell had trouble getting around a curve on County Line Road near Georgetown Road before he hit the sign, police said. Mitchell and his motorcycle came to rest in a field off Route 19, they added.
Mitchell, who police said wasn’t wearing a helmet, was pronounced dead at the scene by Crawford County Coroner Pat McHenry.
A 1997 graduate of Commodore Perry High School, Hadley, he is survived by, among others, his wife, Angela Armour, and his son, Christopher Matthew Mitchell, of Linesville.
Sheakleyville and Greenwood Township firefighters assisted at the scene, police said.
