Police: Man stole purse, found hiding in woods

FARRELL — Pierre J. McKinney, 28, of Youngstown man was charged after he grabbed a woman at about 6:25 p.m. Thursday as she was getting into her car in a parking lot in the 800 block of Sharon-New Castle Road, Farrell, said Southwest Mercer County Regional police.

McKinney then snatched the woman’s purse and ran into the woods behind the parking lot, police said. He was found about half an hour later in a wooded area behind a plaza at Sharon-New Castle Road and Mercer Avenue, police said.

He was arraigned Friday before District Judge Ronald E. Antos, Farrell, on charges of robbery, simple assault, theft and receiving stolen property.

Hospital releases girl who was stabbed

HERMITAGE — The 17-year-old Sharon girl stabbed three times Wednesday in a parking lot of 400 Orange Drive, Hermitage, is no longer hospitalized.

Valerie Vanpelt was treated at the hospital of Sharon Regional Health System, a spokeswoman said. She was stabbed in the stomach, thigh and hand, police said.

Miranda N. Trepasso, 16, of 1870 Pine Hollow Blvd. Hermitage, was charged as an adult with aggravated and simple assault and possession of a prohibited offensive weapon.

The two argued when Valerie ordered Miranda out of a car at 11:30 p.m., and Miranda pulled out a switchblade and stabbed Valerie, police said.
