Students win academic contests

- — At Slippery Rock University, students competed in the game of Propaganda, a game about advertising techniques. The middle school team of Erika Filer, Max Boshaw, Addie Reynolds, Grace Garner and Levi Throckmorton placed first with Erika, Max and Levi undefeated. Also attending were Derek Richardson, Meridyth Moose, Zane Jones, Ron Howard, Caden Koscinksi, Will Kemeny, Peter Birmingham and Bethany Hawke.

The elementary school team of Susannah Jackson, Isobel Day, Megan Smith, Spencer Pokrant and Connor McEwen placed first with all five players undefeated. The team of Kiana Fleeger, Aaron Jackson, Colin Gardner, Jacob Irani and Reilly Helmininack placed sixth with Colin undefeated. Also undefeated was Paige Gray. Others attending included Autumn Burkett, Abby Steffler, Cassie Smith, Renee Mercer, Richard Blackburn, Mary Beth Coulter, Cael McEwen, Alex Hemmerlin, JT Brown and David Dennis.

At Grove City College, elementary students competed in the math competition Calcu-Solve.

The team of Susannah Jackson, David Dennis, Megan Smith and Spencer Pokrant placed first out of 17 teams. Megan Smith placed fifth individually and Connor McEwen placed fourth individually. The students will compete in the Calcu-Solve Superbowl at Duquesne University in January. Also attending were Alex Hemmerlin, Cael McEwen, Kiana Fleeger,  Isobel Day, and Mary Beth Coulter.
