FARRELL — Southwest Mercer County Regional police have arrested a man who recently moved from South Bend, Ind., for beating and robbing a Farrell woman who invited him into her home.

Alijah V. Hasan-Douglas, 20, of 1550 Parke Drive, Hermitage, was arrested at 12:17 p.m. Thursday on charges of robbery, aggravated assault and making terroristic threats, police said.

According to police, the victim and Hasan-Douglas struck up a conversation Jan. 4 at a Farrell market. The woman said she had never met Hasan-Douglas before.

After the woman made a purchase and started her walk home, Hasan-Douglas ran up to her and they continued to talk, police said.

The woman invited Hasan-Douglas to come to her house for a beer, and he responded that he would come but had to run home first, police said.

The woman got home to the 200 block of Florida Street and answered a knock on her door about 15 minutes later to find Hasan-Douglas there, police said.

She let him in and offered him a beer, police said.

As they talked, the victim told Hasan-Douglas there was no one else in the house, police said.

Hasan-Douglas punched the victim in the head, face and chest several times and demanded money, police said.

He stole $19 from the woman’s purse and demanded more, said police, who were called at 11:36 a.m.

The woman said she did not have more money and Hasan-Douglas pulled a knife from under his sweatshirt, held it to her throat and demanded money again, police said. He also said he would kill her if she called police, police said.

Police obtained video surveillance footage of Hasan-Douglas from the market.

Hasan-Douglas was arraigned by District Judge Ronald E. Antos, Farrell, and taken to Mercer County Jail after failing to post bond. A preliminary hearing was set for 3:15 p.m. Jan. 21.
