GREENVILLE — A homeless man squatting in a house in Greenville was arrested at 10:37 p.m. Tuesday when he was found in bed with a 15-year-old girl who had run away from a group home in Meadville, police said.

Ronald R. Williams, 22, was charged with involuntary deviate sexual intercourse, burglary, statutory sexual assault, criminal trespass, interfering with the custody of a child and interfering with the custody of a committed person, police said.

Greenville-West Salem Township police said they were notified by the girl’s mother, who lives in Cleveland, that the girl had run away and might be in the Greenville area with someone known to her as Ronnie Williams, police said.

A policeman familiar with Williams knew where he might be and checked out a vacant house at 124 Clarksville St., where he was found with the girl, police said.

Williams told police he was sorry for breaking in but he had no other place to stay, police said.

He said he was in a Hempfield Township restaurant when the girl arrived, police said. Williams knew the girl had run away, and that he was “deeply in love” with her, police said. He asked her to go home with him, police said.

Williams said he thought the girl might be 17, police said. When asked if he really believed that, Williams said she might be 13 or 14, police said.

The girl was returned to the group home, to which she had been legally placed, police said.

Williams was arraigned by District Judge Brian Arthur and taken to Mercer County Jail for failing to post bond. A preliminary hearing has been set for 4 p.m. April 3.
