3 victims of fatal I-79 crash identified

Were from Buffalo, Pittsburgh areas

Deer Creek Township — State police and Mercer County Coroner’s Office have identified the three people who died in a two-car crash Friday in Deer Creek Township: Robert J. Neubert II, 62, of Amherst N.Y., Susan L. Thomas, 54, of Sewickley, and Mary G. Carmody, 44, of Sewickley and/or Avalon, Pa..

Neubert was southbound on Interstate 79 when he lost control for an unknown reason, police said. His car traveled across the median into the northbound lanes and hit Thomas’, said police, who were called at 5:43 p.m.

Thomas’s car, in which Carmody was a passenger, vaulted over a guardrail, police said.

Thomas and Carmody were pronounced dead of head and internal injuries at the scene by Deputy Coroner Robert L. Snyder.

Neubert was taken to a local hospital and was pronounced dead by Deputy Coroner John Libonati. An autopsy performed Saturday revealed  that he died of internal injuries.
