Man pleads guilty in theft cases

MERCER COUNTY — A Mercer County man facing 11 criminal cases, mostly related to thefts, pleaded guilty Monday in five of them.

John D. Leali, 50, of 361 Greenfield Road, Lackawannock Township, or 3914 Hogback Road, Hermitage, admitted these crimes:

• Theft for issuing a $1,200 check on a closed account June 26, 2012, to a South Pymatuning Township man he had borrowed money from. A Mercer County detective filed the charge.

• Defrauding secured creditors of $3,142 for disposing of a 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee that a constable had put a levy on in January at home, another case initiated by a county detective.

• Theft for failing to deliver chicken wings and hamburger to the owner of a Pymatuning Township restaurant in January. The owner is out $1,600, prosecutors said. Pymatuning Township police filed the charge. A count of receiving stolen property was withdrawn.

• Theft for cashing a $950 fraudulent check Nov. 7, 2012, at a Hermitage credit union. A charge of bad checks was withdrawn. Hermitage police filed the charges.

• Theft for issuing an $1,850 check that payment was stopped on Sept. 25 at a now-closed Hermitage restaurant, another Hermitage police case.

Mercer County Common Pleas Court Judge Thomas R. Dobson set sentencing for Oct. 29.

Leali faces preliminary hearing in two cases Thursday before District Judge Lorinda L. Hinch, Mercer, one for failing to deliver meat and the second for failing to deliver fuel.

Four other cases are pending in common pleas court, three dealing with failing to deliver fuel and the last for not returning a rifle he had borrowed.
