PYMATUNING TOWNSHIP — A Pymatuning Township man has been charged with having a sexual relationship with a girl over 5 1/2 years.
Merrell “Moe” Sanders, 47, of 103 W. 10th St., was charged Saturday with 50 counts of rape and 50 counts each of four other sex charges.
When the abuse started, the girl was 10, police said.
Sanders was arraigned by District Judge Ronald E. Antos, Farrell, and taken to jail after failing to post $150,000 bond. A preliminary hearing was set for 2 p.m. Monday before District Judge Brian Arthur, Greenville.
In court documents, Pymatuning Township police say the girl named others who also sexually assaulted her, but it is not clear whether anyone else has been charged. A message left with police was not returned.
Police said they interviewed the girl Friday, but the abuse occurred between November 2007 and June 2013.
At times, Sanders would have sex with the girl daily, but the contact was more sporadic at other times, police said.
The girl reported the abuse occurred more than 50 times, police said.
The girl said she resisted Sanders and the other abusers at the beginning, “but it became a part of my life and it was easier to allow it to happen than fight it,” police said.
