- — CIRT takes man wanted for assault into custody

FARRELL – A man was taken into custody by the Critical Incident Response Team Saturday in Farrell, according to Southwest Mercer County Regional Police.

A woman called police to 411 Roemer Blvd. and said she was being assaulted by a man, who she said was hitting her in the head with a shotgun, according to police.

Police said the man was still inside the apartment,  but they weren’t able to contact him and called the incident response team. He was taken into custody a short time later.

No information about the man’s name was available Saturday evening.

Police charge man with drug, firearm offenses

FARRELL – A Sharon man was arrested Friday when police found a gun and drugs in an apartment from which he had sold crack cocaine to an informant, Southwest Mercer County Regional police.

Police said an informant told them in January that Gavin L. “Pac” Cobb, 37, of 366 Wheeler Place, has been a source of cocaine and crack.

Under the control of police, the informant bought crack from Cobb on Jan. 28, March 10 and Wednesday at 629 Spearman Ave., Farrell, police said.

Police obtained a search warrant and served it at 9 a.m. Friday at 629 Spearman. Police reported finding two scales, a bag of marijuana, three crack pipes, a marijuana bud, a grinder and a .40-caliber handgun with six rounds in the magazine, police said.

Cobb is not allowed to have a gun because of a 2003 drug conviction and a 2006 firearm conviction.

Cobb was arraigned by District Judge Dennis M. Songer, Sharon, on charges of delivery of crack, possession of crack, pot and drug paraphernalia and prohibited possession of a firearm.

Songer committed Cobb to jail for failing to post bond.

Songer set a preliminary hearing for 9 a.m. May 8 before District Judge Ronald E. Antos, Farrell.
