A former Sharon High School wrestler and current fifth-grade teacher at Franklin Regional High School wasn’t among those injured in a mass stabbing in the district’s high school Wednesday morning.
Eric Mausser, formerly of Sharon, helped direct panicked students into the middle school building where he works until their parents could pick them up, according to Helen Scarmack of Sharon, who is the grandmother of Mausser’s wife, Jennifer.
Scarmack said Mausser’s wife is a nurse working in the operating room at Children’s Hospital in Pittsburgh and was helping to treat those injured.
“She was naturally very worried until she heard from Eric that he was OK. And we’ve seen him several times today on the television so we know he is all right,” Scarmack said. “And his wife is working and I have no idea how long she’ll have to be there.”
“We’ve talked back and forth all day with my daughter, Gina, who is Eric’s mother-in-law. It’s been a scary day,” she said.
Mausser is the son of Deb and Gerald Mausser of Sharon. Neither Mausser nor his wife could be reached by cell phone.
Mausser is a 2003 graduate of Clarion University where he excelled as a wrestler.
He is the head wrestling coach at Franklin Regional.
