Air Force veteran running for 3rd District Dem nod

-----

3RD DISTRICT — Rob Joswiak announced today that he is running for the Democratic nomination for Congress in Pennsylvania’s 3rd Congressional District.

“I’m running for Congress because Pennsylvania’s working families deserve a leader in Washington who understands their hopes as well as their concerns,” he said.

“As a native of western Pennsylvania and an Air Force veteran, I understand what it means to take on a tough fight and work together to complete the mission. In Congress, I pledge to help create good-paying jobs, strengthen our education system, work to make college affordable, and keep our promises to America’s veterans and seniors.”

Joswiak, a graduate of Riverside High School, Ellwood City, is running for Pennsylvania’s 3rd congressional district against Republican Congressman Mike Kelly. Joswiak said Kelly voted for the shutdown of the federal government, repeatedly siding with the extreme tea party-wing of the Republican Party instead of the hard-working men and women of his district.

Joswiak, a native of western Pennsylvania, said he was raised to believe service to his community and his country come first. He was the first in his family to go to college and graduated from Penn State University.

In 2005, Rob enlisted in the Air Force. He first served at Ramstein Air Base in Germany as a broadcast journalist for the American Forces Network (AFN). In 2008, Rob deployed as a combat correspondent to AFN Afghanistan at Bagram Air Field.

In 2012, he earned an MPA from Bowie State University in Bowie, Md., on the GI Bill.

Joswiak said the 3rd District is one of the few swing districts left in the country. He said approximately 46 percent of voters in the district are registered Democrats and 43 percent are registered Republicans while independents and libertarians round out remaining voters.

The 3rd District includes the counties of Armstrong, Butler, Mercer and Crawford, and parts of Erie, Clarion and Lawrence.
