3RD CONGRESSIONAL DISTRICT —
Dan LaVallee of Cranberry Township, Butler County, released a web video Friday announcing his candidacy for the Democratic nomination for the 3rd Congressional District.
Republican Mike Kelly of Butler is the district’s current representative.
“I’m running for Congress because we need a new kind of leadership to get our economy moving again,” said LaVallee.
“While Youngstown and Pittsburgh are starting to recover, most of northwest Pennsylvania is still falling behind. We have opportunities for growth, but we are not taking advantage of them.
“Washington and Congressman Kelly would rather shut down the government than find solutions.”
In his announcement, LaVallee pledged to offer new, energetic leadership in Congress and seize opportunities for economic growth by developing more partnerships between universities and businesses, investing in job training, and tackling Washington’s irresponsible and reckless spending habits.
A western Pennsylvania native, LaVallee earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees while playing basketball at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh and later worked to ensure families and individuals received quality, affordable, health coverage.
LaVallee is heavily involved with the Caring Place for Grieving Children, which his family was instrumental in starting after his brother’s death to support youth who have lost loved ones.
