WEST SALEM TOWNSHIP —
A Greenville man has been charged with two counts of arson for torching the home he lived in in West Salem Township.
Seth R. Zarecky, 19, was arrested Saturday on charges filed by Greenville-West Salem Township police, police said.
Zarecky was living at 186 Clarksville St. when it burned to the ground Tuesday. He told police he started the fire in the basement after he had retrieved some belongings from the house, police said.
Zarecky was charged under two subsections of the arson statute: for causing danger of death or bodily injury, most likely to firefighters; and intending to collect insurance.
It was not clear how he would collect insurance.
Firefighters said Dino Tofani owned the house.
Zarecky was arraigned by District Judge Dennis M. Songer, Sharon, and taken to jail for failing to post bond. Zarecky faces a preliminary hearing at 1:15 p.m. Feb. 24 before District Judge Brian Arthur, Greenville.
