BROOKFIELD — A 73-year-old Sharon woman was killed Monday afternoon when the SUV in which she was riding was hit broadside at state routes 7 and 82 in Brookfield, according to Ohio Highway Patrol.

OHP said Carmen L. Maldonado-Iraq was pronounced dead at the scene of the 2:42 p.m. crash. She was a front-seat passenger in the SUV driven by Fadia Iraq, 22, also of Sharon.

The younger woman suffered what police termed serious injuries. She was listed in critical condition Monday evening in St. Elizabeth Health Center, Youngstown, police said.

Neither woman was wearing a seatbelt, OHP said.

Police said Iraq’s SUV was northbound on Route 7, crossing the intersection with a green traffic signal, when it was hit by a westbound Hummer, driven by Jessica L. Shaffer, 26, of Brookfield. OHP said Shaffer drove through the red signal on Route 82; she suffered minor injuries.
