- — Ex-PTO treasurer put on probation for thefts

HERMITAGE – The second of two women who admitted stealing money from the Hermitage Parent-Teacher Organization recently was sentenced to 6 years’ probation.

Kelly M. Vocaire, 42, of 158 N. Buhl Farm Drive, Hermitage, also was ordered to pay costs and $19,250 restitution, and perform 500 hours’ community service.

Vocaire was treasurer of the group that raises money to support activities in the school district.

Former PTO President Gina M. Grata, 46, of 57 Concord Road, Hermitage, was sentenced in January to 5 years’ probation, costs and $10,181 restitution, and 350 hours’ community service.

Both women pleaded guilty to theft.

The thefts were discovered in 2012 after another PTO official noticed discrepancies in the organization accounts, Hermitage police said.

When the charges against Vocaire and Grata were filed, Hermitage School District and the PTO issued a joint statement announcing accounting changes to make the district the custodian of PTO funds.

Ex-manager admits lifting pain pills from resident

HERMITAGE – The former manager of Whispering Oaks retirement apartments in Hermitage has been fined and put on probation for stealing pills from a resident.

Frank J. Nixon, 55, of Duncansville, Pa., formerly of Whispering Oaks, 260 S. Buhl Farm Drive, has pleaded guilty to charges of theft and possession of a controlled substance without a prescription.

He was fined $400 and costs by District Judge Ronald E. Antos, Farrell, and put on 2 years’ probation.

Hermitage police said they took reports from four residents that prescription medication had been stolen in September, December and January and detected no signs of forced entry, which could indicate that someone had a key.

Nixon told police he was being treated for opiate addiction and admitted stealing “some pills” from a 66-year-old woman’s room Dec. 31. The resident reported 18 Hydromorphone pills were taken, The drug is an opiate-derived painkiller.
