GREENVILLE — Thiel College President Troy VanAken says a student won’t be returning after shooting himself in an incident at 11:30 p.m. Wednesday.
In a news release, VanAken said the student was treated and released from UPMC Horizon, Greenville, after receiving "a minor gun-related injury."
Thiel College police and local police investigated the incident and “confirmed the prospective student’s injury was self-inflicted,” VanAken said. “This individual will not be permitted on campus.”
The release issued late Thursday afternoon did not include the student’s name, details of the injury, the gun used or the location of the shooting.
The Herald earlier called Greenville-West Salem Township police for information and was directed to call Thiel in connection with the incident.
