Cops: Man drunk at time of war memorial crash

SHENANGO TOWNSHIP — The New Wilmington man whose pickup crashed through the grounds of the Korean War Memorial in Shenango Township has been charged with drunken driving.

Steven C. Houyouse, 44, also has been sent a summons charging him with a lane violation.

The crash occurred at 8:15 p.m. March 4 along Hubbard-West Middlesex Road, Southwest Mercer County Regional police said.

Houyouse was westbound when he failed to make a curve and his pickup hit three poles and ran over several bushes on the war memorial grounds, then went over Terri Lane and hit a tree in a yard, police said.

Houyouse was removed from the pickup by Shenango Township volunteer firefighters and taken to a regional hospital for a head injury, police said.
