Police seek donations for family caught in Transfer standoff

TRANSFER — The Mercer County Sheriff’s office and members of the Critical Incident Response Team are collecting clothing, games, books and other items for a Transfer family whose property was damaged in a standoff between police and an armed intruder Wednesday.

Sheriff Gary Hartman said the home was destroyed when law enforcement officials used chemicals to drive the intruder out of the home.

All the belongings were contaminated, he said.

The four children who lived in the home need clothing in the following sizes:

- Newborn/premature baby clothing

- Girls size 2T

- Boys size 4T

- Teen clothing for a tall 13-year-old girl

All donations can be dropped off weekdays from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the sheriff’s office, 205 S. Erie St., Mercer or at the Hermitage police department on North Hermitage Road.
