Hermitage tax collector and treasurer Bernie Harry swept into a third term by beating her challenger in every precinct, according to unofficial tallies.
Harry, a Democrat, bested Republican challenger Perry Dunder 2,061 to 1,146, earning 64 percent of votes cast.
“I’m ecstatic,” Harry said, calling her precinct sweep “amazing.”
Although she was an incumbent and there were no negative issues concerning her running of the office, Harry said she did not assume she would get another term.
“There were some strong county candidates,” she said. “So many people come out and just vote straight party. There’s always a wonder. You’re never sure.”
Dunder congratulated Harry and said she respects the wishes of the voters.
“It was a great experience for me,” she said. “I met a lot of nice people and I really enjoyed it.”
Harry pledged to give her constituents “the same customer service I’ve been giving them.”
She said she loves working with the walk-in customers and helping people in any way she can.
“We’re looking at some new credit card options that better please the customers with less fees,” she said. “I just plan to maintain an even keel in the office.”
