Man beaten in home, stabs an attacker

SHARON — A man beaten during an afternoon home invasion in Sharon managed to stab one of his attackers.

Three men with guns knocked on the door at about 1:35 p.m. Wednesday and burst into the home in the 100 block of Third Street. They demanded money from the 19-year-old resident and his 21-year-old girlfriend, Sharon police Chief Mike Menster said.

They pistol-whipped the victim who was hit on the head several times.

“During the assault he grabbed a knife and began to slash at the attackers to get them off him,” Menster said. “He ended up stabbing one of them.”

Aaron Gash, 17, was treated in the emergency room of Sharon Regional Health System and taken to St. Elizabeth Health Center, Youngstown, for further treatment of a stab wound in the right upper chest and a slash wound of the abdomen, Menster said.

Police arrested Christian Hardy, 18, near the scene of the attack. Both men gave 815 Fruit Ave., Farrell, as their address.

Both have been charged with burglary, aggravated assault and robbery in the incident, which netted two cell phones. Gash, who was charged as an adult, will be taken into custody when his medical condition improves, Menster said.

Hardy was taken to Mercer County Jail after failing to post bond and police are looking for the third suspect.

The beating victim was treated for bruises on his head and the woman wasn’t injured.

Menster said he doubted the attack was related to several recent street robberies or home invasions in the city since last spring.

“The victim knew two of the attackers, so there was some type of relationship between them,” he said. “It doesn’t look like a random thing like the others.”
