Couple charged in another home burglary

SHENANGO VALLEY — Hermitage police have charged a Hermitage woman and a South Pymatuning Township man arrested Monday for burglarizing a home in Shenango Township with breaking into a home on Hogback Road.

Tracy L. Hassel, 32, of 2239 Woodbine Drive, and Steven T. Mortland, 24, of 3028 Valley View Road, each have been charged with burglary, theft and conspiracy to commit burglary and theft.

Hassel also was charged with prohibited possession of a firearm.

Hassel and Mortland cut a window screen Aug. 26 to enter a home in the 4800 block of Hogback, police said. They stole a guitar, an amplifier, about a dozen knives, two blankets and several firearms, police said.

Hassel is not allowed to possess a gun because of three burglary convictions. She was supposed to be sentenced on the charges Sept. 4 but did not show up.

Southwest Mercer County Regional police have charged the pair with burglary, criminal trespass, theft and receiving stolen property for entering an unlocked door of a home Monday in the 100 block of Jackson Road, Shenango Township, and stealing two televisions, police said.

The pair were arrested at Jackson and Mercer-West Middlesex roads and had a blanket from the Hogback break-in in their car, police said.

In separate interviews, they confessed to the Hogback burglary, police said.

The couple previously was charged by Hermitage police with misdemeanor retail theft and conspiracy to commit retail theft for stealing 13 video games July 30 from Walmart, 1275 N. Hermitage Road.

Hassel also faces two other retail theft cases.
