Lackawannock man charged after failing to deliver fuel

FAIRVIEW TOWNSHIP — A Lackawannock Township man has been charged with taking money for the purchase of fuel, but never delivering the goods.

John D. Leali, 49, of 361 Greenfield Road, has been charged by state police with theft.

Leali made a deal March 12 with SES Wood Products, 1179 Airport Road, Fairview Township, to sell 1,300 gallons of fuel for $2.50 a gallon, police said.

Leali told the company representative that he was digging up an underground storage tank that still had fuel in it, police said.

The victim wrote a check for $3,250 and delivery was supposed to be made March 18, police said.

On March 15, Leali said he had another 600 gallons and SES paid him $1,500 for the extra fuel, police said.

Leali never delivered the fuel, police said.

Leali waived the charge for court and was returned to Mercer County Jail after failing to post bond.
