HERMITAGE — A Hermitage man who was the victim of a beating March 30 on the property of the Shenango Park Apartments was assaulted Tuesday in the neighborhood, Hermitage police said.

Floyd Royal Jr. told police three men punched him and knocked him to the ground at about 3 p.m. in the 1500 block of Parke Drive.

A witness told police one of the men pulled out a handgun, cocked it and pointed it at Royal, but no shots were fired, police said.

Royal identified one of the men as Dewayne Q. Johnson and someone saw him go into an apartment at 1530 Parke, police said.

Police said they set up a perimeter around the building. Johnson’s girlfriend, Kendra Ham, came out of the apartment and said Johnson was inside.

Johnson, 21, of 628 Emerson Ave., Farrell, exited about 20 minutes later without incident and was arrested, police said.

Ham gave police permission to search the apartment and they found a .45-caliber handgun beneath a futon and drug paraphernalia, including bags, a scale, a spoon and a straw, in the kitchen, police said.

Johnson admitted burglarizing Royal’s apartment prior to the fight and stealing the handgun, but claimed he did not have it on him during the fight, police said.

Johnson was charged with aggravated and simple assault, receiving stolen property, carrying a firearm without a license, possession of drug paraphernalia, reckless endangerment, disorderly conduct and harassment.

He was taken to Mercer County Jail for failing to post $100,000 bond and faces a preliminary hearing at 2 p.m. June 27 before District Judge Ronald E. Antos, Farrell.

In the March 30 incident, Royal testified that he was walking from his vehicle to his girlfriend’s apartment at about 3:20 a.m. in the 1400 block of Parke Drive when three men came up to him and asked him who he was.

Royal replied, “Don’t worry about it” and the parties jawed back and forth until a man in a black hoodie pulled out a gun and hit Royal in the back of the head with it. Another assailant, in a gray hoodie, punched him in the mouth, Royal said.

Royal was ready to fight, but didn’t want to do it alone, so he went inside and recruited a buddy, Teddy “Chris” Greer, and they both went back outside. The men in the hoodies ended up pulling out revolvers and firing, one of the bullets running through Greer’s right arm.

Royal and Greer both testified they did not know their attackers and cannot identify them. With other witness accounts, police arrested Daniel L. Odem Jr., 21, of 1126 Washington Ave., Farrell, and Terran D. Page-Hughes, 24, of 360 Orange Drive, Hermitage.
