Couple face charges in local theft spree

JEFFERSON TOWNSHIP — A Lawrence County couple accused of stealing a Mercer man’s car now face charges that they used the car to go on a theft spree in Jefferson Township.

Steven M. Tedrow, 24, of Ellwood City, and Cynthia M. Salomon, 26, of New Castle, each were charged by Mercer police last week with theft, receiving stolen property and unauthorized use of a vehicle.

They were staying at a home April 17 into April 18 in the 300 block of East Market Street when they stole the resident’s station wagon, police said.

Tedrow, who has not been arrested, drove to the mobile home park in the 7900 block of West Market Street, Jefferson Township, and looked for unlocked vehicles, stealing tools, $40 and five gallons of kerosene from one and a purse and medications from another, police said.

He crashed the stolen car in a ditch on Lamor Road, then stole a Jeep from the 7400 block, police said.

He then stole a pair of boots from a vehicle in the 200 block of Highland Road, police said.

The Jeep was recovered in New Castle and police got a tip that Salomon might be in the city. New Castle police arrested her.

Jefferson police charged the pair Thursday each with theft, receiving stolen property, unauthorized use of a vehicle, criminal mischief, loitering and prowling at night and conspiracy to commit theft, receiving stolen property, criminal mischief and loitering and prowling at night.

Salomon is in Mercer County Jail, facing a preliminary hearing at 10:30 a.m. Thursday before District Judge Lorinda L. Hinch., Mercer.
