PYMATUNING TOWNSHIP —
A 28-year-old mother, accused of drunken driving, is in jail and her four small children all hospitalized after a crash Thursday evening at South River Road and Kidds Mill Road.
Pymatuning Township police said Amanda Ann Kline, 1515 Greenville-Mercer Road, Mercer, did not stop at a stop sign at the intersection and pulled into the path of a pickup truck driven by Jessica R. Young, 27, of 98 S. Barry Road, West Salem Township.
After impact, Kline’s van rolled over multiple times and struck a tree. Her children, a set of 4-year-old twin boys, a 3-year-old boy and a 17-day-old infant were initially treated at UPMC Horizon, Greenville, and flown to UPMC Children’s Hospital in Pittsburgh. Three of the four suffered serious injuries.
A spokesman for Children’s Hospital was unable to provide any information about the children’s conditions Friday afternoon.
Young was treated for minor injuries, as was her sister, Jenna Young, who was a passenger in the truck, police said.
Kline was arrested Thursday night and charged with drunken driving, aggravated assault by vehicle while drivingdrunk, four counts of endangering the welfare of children, driving on a suspended license, careless driving and speeding.
Toxicology reports are pending.
She was arraigned before District Justice Brian K. Arthur, Greenville, Friday morning and taken to Mercer County Jail after failing to post $100,000 bond.
A preliminary hearing is set for 2:45 p.m. July 1.
The crash was one of three within an hour that kept police and medical personnel busy Thursday night. Reports on the other accidents were unavailable.
