LACKAWANNOCK TOWNSHIP —
A father and son were arrested Tuesday on charges that they sexually assaulted a teen girl who has cerebral palsy while the father was acting as her caregiver.
Christopher D. Atkinson, 60, of 25 Jellison Lane, Lackawannock Township, has been charged by state police with aggravated indecent assault, indecent assault, corruption of a minor and unlawful contact with a minor.
His son, Aaron A. Atkinson, 22, of the same address, has been charged with indecent assault, corruption of a minor and unlawful contact with a minor.
The assaults occurred between 2010 and 2012 at their home, when the girl was as young as 13, police said. Police allege each man assaulted the girl independently of the other.
The girl has moved to Texas and reported the assaults to a family member, who notified authorities in Guadalupe County. The girl, who is unable to speak, and communicates by an iPad Touch, was interviewed by child advocates, who passed on the video of the interview to Pennsylvania State Police.
The Atkinsons were interviewed separately and each admitted some sexual contact with the girl, police said.
The men were arraigned Tuesday by District Judge Lorinda L. Hinch and released after posting bond. Their preliminary hearing was set for 10:30 a.m. May 20.
