The next construction job being tackled by Sharon schools is the area of space the district owns at 47 Forker Blvd.
The property is at the corner of East State Street and Forker Boulevard, across from Dick’s TV, and houses the former Dairy Mart and the former Ziebart building.
The board approved unanimously Monday to authorize Eckles Architecture and Engineering, New Castle, to formulate a design for that space, with the cost to be negotiated.
They are calling it the Demolition and Refurbishing of Property Plan.
“We don’t know whether we will tear down the building on the corner to open up green space or refurbish an old building,” Michael Calla, interim superintendent, said.
Calla said the white corner building now houses the school’s maintenance center in the front and family services in the back.
If the building is torn down, both departments will relocate to the former Dairy Mart building, and additional parking for the school will be in that lot in front.
If the corner building is renovated, additional parking behind it will be available.
The plans would not materialize in the near future, Calla said.
Eckles will have to draw up the design plan first and the board will have to pay them and vote on whether or not to accept their design.
