Herald Publisher Sharon A. Sorg is no stranger to hometown newspapers.
It’s no surprise, then, that she’s been selected to lead another newspaper in the area in which she grew up.
Sorg has been named publisher of the New Castle News, The Herald’s sister newspaper, which is a tradition-rich Monday through Saturday publication in Lawrence County.
In addition to her duties in New Castle, Sorg will continue in her role as publisher of The Herald and the twice-weekly Allied News in Grove City. She has served in that position since October 2011.
Her appointment was announced Friday by Keith Blevins, chief operating officer of Community Newspaper Holdings Inc.
“We are fortunate to have someone of Sharon’s ability as publisher in New Castle,” Blevins said. “She is an excellent publisher and lifelong resident of the area and will do an outstanding job for the readers and advertisers of the New Castle News.”
Both The Herald and the New Castle News are owned by CNHI, located in Montgomery, Ala.
“The New Castle News does a great job of providing Lawrence County with community news across multimedia products,” Sorg said. “I am looking forward to being a part of the team and building on the paper’s history of success.”
Sorg started her newspaper career at The Herald in 1987 in advertising sales dispatch. She held various positions in sales, was co-op coordinator, Views & Voices supervisor, advertising manager and director of advertising.
In 2007, she was named publisher of the Meadville Tribune and spent four years in that role before returning to The Herald.
Sorg graduated from Sharon High School and attended Penn State University to major in journalism. She lives in Pulaski with her husband Chuck, son Matthew, and daughter Emily.
As publisher, Sorg will oversee the editorial, advertising and circulation departments at The News. She begins those duties immediately.
Sorg serves on the board of the United Way and is a member of the Lawrence County Chamber of Commerce and the board of directors of the Pennsylvania NewsMedia Association.
Away from the office, she enjoys spending time with her family.
