EAST LACKAWANNOCK TOWNSHIP — Police were continuing their investigation Tuesday afternoon into an East Lackawannock Township crash that left a cement-truck driver dead.

State police said the cement truck was driven by James Arthur Minteer, 51, of New Castle. The truck was traveling west on state Route 318 at 1:30 p.m. when for an unknown reason it left the road along a left curve and went into a ditch along the right side of the road, traveling in the ditch until hitting a culvert, police said.

The truck came back onto the roadway, overturning on its passenger side, and slid down both lanes before striking a car driven by Kenneth D. Millison, 84, of Hermitage, police said. The impact caused the truck to slide farther down the road until coming to a stop across both lanes, while the car was pushed backwards into a ditch, police said.

Millison and a passenger, Shirley Catherine Millison, 81, were wearing seatbelts; he suffered minor injury and she sustained no injury, police said.

Minteer was not wearing a seatbelt, police said.

Assisting at the scene were Superior Ambulance, East End and Jefferson Township volunteer fire departments, Jefferson Township police, Mercer Auto Wreckers and Kress Towing, PennDOT and Stat Medevac.
