Man jailed after ER stabbing

SHARON — A 30-year-old Sharpsville man was being held Sunday night in Mercer County Jail on $500,000 bond, facing charges he stabbed an emergency room greeter at the hospital of Sharon Regional Health System because he was denied narcotic pain pills, Sharon police said.

The hospital employee, Linda Clark of Hubbard, was in critical condition in surgery at the hospital with a stab wound to her neck, the hospital said in a news release.

Clark was stabbed by Justin Michael Delfratte of 785 Crestview Drive, police said.

Delfratte had been discharged from the emergency room after being refused narcotic pain medication, police said.

When he was offered non-narcotic medications, police said he became disgruntled and walked to the emergency room entrance. After pacing back and forth, Delfratte approached Clark and stabbed her in the neck, police said. They did not indicate what weapon was used.

He walked outside, where he was confronted by hospital security and held until police arrived.

Both police and the hospital said it was an isolated incident. Extra security measures were in place Sunday night and Sharon police Chief Michael Menster said his department will work with the hospital to enhance security.

“I want to assure the public, our patients, and our employees that the environment at Sharon Regional is safe, and we will take every step available to us to insure that an incident of this type never happens again,” said John R. “Jack” Janoso Jr., president and CEO. “The thoughts and prayers of our entire Sharon Regional team are extended to the Clark family.”

Delfratte is charged with attempted homicide and was arraigned by District Judge Ronald E. Antos, Farrell, who set bail at $500,000.
