Woman admits biting off finger in fight

FARRELL — A Sharon woman has admitted biting off the finger of another woman a year ago in Farrell.

Kimberly A. Davis, 46, pleaded guilty Tuesday to a charge of aggravated assault, a crime that could land her in prison for a maximum of 10 to 20 years.

Prosecutors withdrew charges of simple assault and reckless endangerment.

The victim, Rachel D. Reed, testified at a Feb. 12, 2013, preliminary hearing that she had no ongoing beef with Davis – they had spent jail time together years ago – but Davis pursued her on Feb. 2, 2013.

Reed said she went to a home in the 1100 block of Spearman Avenue, Farrell, to repay a man for rides he had given her, and ended up having some drinks.

There was conflicting testimony as to who started a fight, but Davis ended up biting off Reed’s left index finger up to the first knuckle during the scuffle.

Reed took the severed digit to the hospital but medical personnel were unable to reattach it, she said.

Reed said she suffered bruises on various parts of her body in the fight.

Davis had been mulling a self-defense argument.

At a pretrial hearing, Assistant District Attorney Cynthia A. Gilkey said she would not object to the sentencing judge levying a sentence that runs at the same time as the sentences for forgery and retail theft handed down against Davis last year.

Davis will be evaluated for mental health and drug and alcohol issues before her sentencing.

She has been in jail since Feb. 21 after being extradited from another state on a bench warrant for failing to show up for an Aug. 7 court hearing.

Her attorney said at the time of the hearing that Davis’ father had died and she needed to see to his affairs.
