HUBBARD TOWNSHIP — A truck driver was killed in a crash that closed a section of Interstate 80 for about 90 minutes in Hubbard Township.

The westbound tractor-trailer driven by Larry J. Johnson, 57, of Chicago, ran  off the passing lane and struck the end of a bridge rail at about 6:10 a.m. Saturday west of U.S. Route 62, a release from the Warren Post of Ohio Highway Patrol  said.,

The truck traveled across the bridge and burst into flames when it fell onto railroad tracks below. Johnson was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

The truck’s load of mangos were strewn throughout the crash scene. There were numerous subsequent collisions on the interstate that were caused by vehicles slowing down due to debris from the original crash, police said.

I-80 eastbound was closed for about 1è hours while the scene was cleaned up and until Ohio Department of Transportation declared the bridge structurally sound.

Police said the crash remains under investigation pending toxicology test results of Johnson’s blood.
