SHARON — A Farrell teen was arrested Thursday for allegedly mugging a 77-year-old woman last week on Connelly Boulevard near Sterling Avenue, a block from the Sharon police station.
The 16-year-old was charged with robbery, theft and assault, and taken to a juvenile detention center until his hearing, police said.
Several police cars lined Sterling Avenue, Sharon, from 7:25 p.m. until well past 10 p.m. Sept. 18, as residents waited for Sharon police to search every apartment in the three-story Parkside Manor. Police from Southwest Mercer County Regional, Brookfield and Hermitage assisted.
Charlotte Lackey, who uses the assistance of a walker, said she was on the way back from Sharon City Centre to her apartment at Connelly Manor when the teen grabbed her purse, knocking her to the ground in the process, police said.
Lackey said the boy got her credit cards, identification and one dollar.
She was taken to UPMC Horizon, Farrell, and was treated for a broken elbow and injuries to her face, police said.
