2009 PIAA State Track and Field Championships - Day 1

Perhaps it was coincidence, could’ve been karma. But on an uncharacterically quiet opening day at the PIAA Track & Field Championships, Mercer County made its mark moreso in the outlying, adjoining throwing venues rather than Seth Grove Stadium’s 400-meter synthetic cylinder.

While countians did not garner gold, some secured silver, led by Hickory’s Emily Woods and Wilmington’s Josh Falvo, as well as Greenville’s Josiah Rupert. Woods and Falvo fashioned personal bests in the discus and shot put, respectively, with throws of 138-11 and 56-10, while Rupert rifled the javelin an even 185 feet.
