Charles ‘Chas’ A. Kohut

Wheatland Tube retiree belonged to Farrell church

- — Charles “Chas” A. Kohut of Farrell passed from life at 5:35 p.m. Monday (12-16-13) in Clepper Manor, Sharon, after a brief illness. He was 86.

Mr. Kohut was born Aug. 1, 1927, in Sharon to Andrew and Margaret Waska Kohut.

He was a graduate of Farrell High School class of 1945.

Chas enlisted in the U.S. Navy following high school toward the end of World War II and served aboard the U.S.S. Bunker Hill aircraft carrier.

He retired from Wheatland Tube Co. in 1984, where he was a foreman.

Chas was a member of the former St. Ann Church and currently of Our Lady of Fatima-St. Ann Church, both in Farrell. For several years, he was the caretaker of St. Ann Cemetery in Hermitage and for many years, served as an usher for St. Ann Church.

He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5286 and American Legion Post 160, both Farrell. His favorite pastimes were reading, particularly military themes, woodworking and tending his vegetable garden.

He married the former Veronica “Ronnie” Thomas on April 30, 1949. She survives at home.

Beside his wife, he is survived by: a son, Chuck Kohut and his wife Marti, Hermitage; a daughter, Kimberly and her husband Michael Klein, Rowlette, Texas; a sister, Helen Kohut, Sharon; and seven grandchildren, Casey Kohut and his wife Ashley, Kyle Kohut, Jim McWilliams and his wife Michelle, Josh McWilliams and his wife Eri, Jacey McWilliams and her companion Mark, Michael Klein and his wife Michelle and Jonathan Klein.

His four great-grandchildren are Ethan and Tyler McWilliams, Conner Kohut and Scarlet Klein. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

A half brother, Joseph Nagy, preceded him in death.

Service: Funeral Mass at 1 p.m. Thursday in Our Lady of Fatima-St. Ann Church, 601 Roemer Blvd., Farrell, with the Rev. Donald E. Berdis, pastor, as celebrant.

Burial: St. Ann Cemetery, Hermitage, with military honors provided by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5286, Farrell, and Post 6233, West Middlesex, and American Legion Post 432, Wheatland.
