William “Bill” L. Fleming of Hermitage, formerly of Naples, Fla., passed away at 8:29 p.m. Monday, Dec. 16, 2013, in his home. He was 88.
Mr. Fleming was born March 16, 1925, in Springfield, Mass., to John J. Fleming and Rita M. Koetsch Fleming..
He graduated from Technical High School in 1947 in Springfield, then received a bachelor’s degree in finance from Xavier University in Cincinnati.
Mr. Fleming retired in 2000 from First National Bank of Naples, where he was a customer service representative for nine years.
He was a member of Our Lady of Fatima-St. Ann’s Church, Farrell.
As a U.S. Navy veteran, Mr. Fleming served in the Air Corps.
He was the first chairman elected to the Christian Businessman’s Committee of Sharon and was a past president of Hermitage Kiwanis Club, the East Naples Civic Association and the organizer and first elected president of the Kiwanis Club of East Naples.
His wife of 67 years, the former Violette I. Shaffer, whom he married March 9, 1946, survives at home.
He also leaves five daughters, Darlene Steines, Sharon; Kathleen Fleming, Fort Myers, Fla.; Paula Emery, Clark; Cyndi Ramsey and her husband James, Sharpsville; and Pamela O’Hara, Lehigh Acres, Fla.; a daughter-in-law, Laura Fleming, Hermitage; two sons, William J. Fleming and his wife Wendy, Naples; and Timothy J. Fleming and his wife Kelly, Ellicott City, Md.; a sister, Geraldine Yacovone, Hampton, Mass.; 22 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Mark D. Fleming; and a brother, John R. Fleming.
