Gloria Jean Barger of Hermitage passed away peacefully of natural causes at 1 p.m. Monday (12-17-13) in Nugent Convalescent Home, Hermitage, after an extended illness. She was 73.
Mrs. Barger was born Sept. 9, 1940, in Sharon, a daughter of Samuel S. and Shirley Mae Stafford Zupo.
A homemaker, she was a member of St. Joseph’s Church, Sharon, where she once served as a Eucharistic minister for the homebound.
Gloria was an excellent crafter who loved spending time with her family. She enjoyed the outdoors and fishing with her husband, especially at Pymatuning Lake.
Gloria was a proud member of the Red Hat Society.
Her husband, Vincent Barger, whom she married Jan. 4, 1982, survives at home.
She also leaves: her children, David J. Freeman and his wife Eva, Sharpsville; Gerald W. Freeman and his wife Francine, Hermitage; Gloria Jean Rowe and her husband Gary, Sharpsville; Jannette Marie Cavacos and her husband Dean, Niles, Ohio; Joyce Ann Jones and her husband John, Hermitage; Nancy Harpster and her husband Robert, Greenville; Tina Marie Burnworth and her husband Harvey, Walcott, Iowa; Vincent Paul Barger Jr., Burgaw, N.C.; Ann Marie Sloan and her husband Clark, Vanderwagen, N.M.; Betty Jean Egelsky and Mary Kay Williams, both Hermitage; William Jones, Transfer; John Jones, Hermitage; and Raymond Jones and his wife Tracey, Jacksonville, Fla.; and her two aunts, Katherine “Kay” Zupo and Sadie Hunter.
She was the loving grandmother of 32 grandchildren and 42 great-grandchildren; she will be sadly missed by all.
Gloria was preceded in death by two daughters, Betty Jean Freeman and Shirley Mae Guthrie; two grandchildren, Jill Rose Perry and Henry Vincent Newton; a great-granddaughter, Haylei Isabelle Marie Keck; and her first husband, David Clark Freeman.
