Sharon High grad was critical care nurse


YOUNGSTOWN — Carolyn L. Moorhead of Youngstown, formerly of Sharon, passed away early Monday morning (12-16-13) in her residence. She was 63.

Mrs. Moorhead was born Jan. 7, 1950, in Sharon, a daughter of William and Rosemary Flaherty Palmer.

Carolyn graduated from Sharon High in 1967, then attended St. Elizabeth School of Nursing, Youngstown, and became a registered nurse. Later, she attended Youngstown State University where she graduated with a bachelor of science degree in nursing.

Carolyn held credentials as a critical care registered nurse (C.C.R.N.) and primarily worked at St. Elizabeth Hospital, Youngstown, in its Medical Intensive Care Unit (MICU) for 43 years.

Carolyn belonged to Bethel Assembly of God, Austintown, Ohio, and was a member of the American Association of Critical Care Nurses and the Northeastern Ohio American Association of Critical Care Nurses (NEOAACN), the latter in which she held multiple positions.

She loved God and had a passion for being a nurse, helping others and doing missionary work, traveling to Africa four different times for that cause.

She loved her family and friends, eating chocolate, Christmas, riding on the Harley and rooting for the Pittsburgh Steelers.

She leaves behind: her husband, W. Brent “Moose” Moorhead, whom she married May 27, 1972; her two children, Brent Moorhead, and Melissa, wife of Darrell Shular, all Colorado Springs, Colo.; her two grandchildren, Grace, 6; and Bode, 3; and her sister, Ritie and her husband Steve Harper.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Raymond Palmer.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to American Cancer Society, 525 N. Broad St., Canfield, OH 44406.
