James Anthony Callahan

National Castings retiree served in Korean conflict

- — Mr. Callahan was born April 19, 1933, in Sharpsville, one of five children born to Frank and Helen Rapp Callahan.

He was a 1951 graduate of Cathedral Preparatory School, Erie, and attended the former Youngstown College.

He was employed at the former National Castings Division of Midland-Ross Corp.’s Sharon plant and retired in 1985 at its closing. Jim also worked for Kilgore Detective Agency as a security guard. Following retirement he worked for several years at Sharpsville Floral helping with deliveries.

He was a former member of Church of the Sacred Heart, Sharon.

Mr. Callahan was a decorated war veteran who served with the U.S. Army during the Korean War and was honorably discharged with medals and citations.

In his younger days he enjoyed playing softball, rooting for his Cleveland Browns, Notre Dame Fighting Irish, Cleveland Indians, and the Pittsburgh Pirates.

He enjoyed reading, listening to Bob and Tom on the radio, Elvis Presley, and Johnny Cash. He also enjoyed the outdoors and spending time with his family. He will be sadly missed.

His wife, the former Patricia Annette King, whom he married Sept. 6, 1958, passed away Nove. 11, 1996.

He is survived by: his two daughters, Annette Linzenbold and her husband Gary “Butch,” Sharpsville; and Danielle Rotunno and her husband Michael, Masury; a son, Gregory F. Callahan and his wife Janice, Sharon; two sisters, Kathryn Kennedy, Liberty, Ohio; and Patricia Corbett, Sharon; and six grandchildren, Kelly Ann and Jacob Linzenbold, Nathaniel and Sarah Callahan and Ciara and Sheridan Rotunno; several nieces and nephews; and his beloved family dog, Maggie.

In addition to his parents and his wife, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Frank and Michael Callahan.

Calling hours and services: Private. Full military honors by the honor guard from the Hickory VFW.
